Week 6 Picks

Posted at October 6, 2007 03:13 AM in College Football .

I never got around to my Top 25 Poll entry this week, mostly because I spent the better part of two days sleeping off some kind of allergy related sickness. I'm told ragweed is bad right now, so ragweed will take the fall on that one. Either way, that Top 25 Poll is time consuming and I think it will become an every other week item; I have to make sure this thing stays fun and not a time draining burden.

I had planned on using the following paragraph earlier this week in my Top 25 Poll/Weekend in Review post, but since I never made that post I'm going to force it in here. I'm quite fond of it.
Last week 10 teams ranked in the AP or USA Today Coaches polls were beaten. Five of those teams were top ten teams suffering upsets. When the top ten teams are dropping like Andrea Yates' children you know you're witnessing a wild week of football. Ranked teams were getting offed like they were members of Black September on the Mossad's hit list.

As for the picks, they're on hiatus. Let me clarify: I'll still be using my power ratings to predict against the spread, but since I have so little data to work from it seems silly at this point to try to identify any highlighted best bets. Maybe in a week or two I can revisit the process of awarding little Heisman trophies to games that my system predicts with a reasonable amount of accuracy. Until then I might as well be throwing darts at my monitor.

Let's recap how my system has performed through two weeks:
WeekStraight UpAgainst the Spread
9-22-0733-1527-20-1
9-29-0737-1623-29-1
Total70-3150-49-2

On to this week's picks, you can find them here. The system is off to a 2-1-1 start against the spread.

I'll probably post a couple of game previews later; I'm thinking Texas/Oklahoma and Florida/LSU sound good.
