« Tex-Mex Beef Roast Thing | Return to Main | 13th Annual Smack-Off »
Almost a year ago today, I launched A Brief and Incomplete History of the Smack-Off as a way to share my knowledge of the annual Jim Rome Show event. The main draw to the page was audio files of each call for several years worth of Smack-Offs. It started getting some decent hits and eventually someone linked to it from Wikipedia and it started getting a shitload of hits.
The decision to start that page was kind of spur of the moment and I went with the quickest publishing route possible: using Microsoft Word to generate the html. For the one year anniversary of the page, I decided it was time to tear it all down and do it right from scratch.
As part of the update, I'm in the process of two major additions: 1) Adding a whole lot more audio, and 2) Putting together a thorough php/MySql database that will contain a wealth of information on each year's calls, information that is easily accessible and sortable to suit the user's wishes. Number 1 is the priority, Number 2 is likely to surface sometime around May 4th, the day of the Smack-Off.
Here's the new A Brief History of the Smack-Off. At the moment about half of the audio links are dead, because I'm still in the process of getting those up, but at some point tomorrow the old page will be removed and this new version will proudly take its place.
Included is a new Guestbook feature, which will hopefully get used because it can be a bitch to sort legitimate e-mails from the spam in my site account.
You should update the link on Wikipedia when you have finished updating the page.
Dude, you are AWESOME. Thanks for doing this for all of us Clones out there.
I second that. Awesome work, andrew.
