The Aristocrats has now been screened at Sundance and at the US Comedy Arts Festival (1) & (2). At Sundance it was picked up for distribution by THINKFilm, but it's still unclear if a theatrical release will happen. One thing is sure: if it gets a rating it will be NC-17.
It sounds like Gilbert Gottfried has two versions of the joke in the film: The first is a clip of when he told it at the Friar's roast of Hugh Heffner (I've written about that telling before) and the other is a version filmed by Penn and Paul Provenza for the film. Kevin Pollack tells it using his best Christopher Walken impersonation (I think both Kevin Spacey and Jay Mohr do him better). The most disappointing news was that Sarah Silverman doesn't actually tell the joke; her role wasn't made clear, but apparently it was still funny.
The other thing that jumped out at me was the way the comedians' versions were cut together. It sounds like there is very little transition between tellings, meaning that there is little time to recover from the painful laughter of the previous comedian's effort.
Jesus Is Magic was screened at the US Comedy Arts Festival also. I haven't found a review of it, but the Aspen Times did print a preview. The article was mostly about Silverman, not her movie. In other Sarah Silverman news, she'll be appearing on a panel at SXSW; the panel, Making Fun of Filmmaking, also features Bob Odenkirk.
