Rome had ESPN executive Mark Shapiro in the Jungle today to talk about the new EOE series "Tilt". Playmakers and the three or four movies that ESPN has made have all sucked to varying degrees, but Michael Madsen as the poker villain at least gives Tilt a chance. It will premiere tomorrow, 1/13/05, at 8 pm central (I think).
Shapiro also announced that "Jim Rome is Burning" will become a daily show starting around Valentine's Day. The show will air at 4:30 pm eastern, 3:30 pm central time. It sounds like the basic format should stay the same, but with some minor tweaking. I like the early time slot better, but I don't really need Rome on TV more than once a week. The radio show is the perfect format for his style and the TV show usually just covers the same ground, but with time enough only for a very broad look at issues.
Romey's going to get some more cash out the deal, but in the end it's just one more step toward the end of the radio show. Although it still sounds like he's committed to that for at least a few more years.
Bonus Sports Thought: I like Les Miles as the new head coach at LSU. He seems to have the same toughness as Nick Saban, but is a little more personable. I just hope he hasn't gotten in over his head. The team is loaded with talent and Tigers fans won't be pleased unless they have a shot at the SEC title every year.
